La Gattabuia restaurant is located in the heart of the old Trastevere, in the middle of its characteristic labyrinth of alleys and squares, and is certainly one of the most typical and historic in Rome.
The restaurant was converted from a splendid seventeenth-century tavern used as a papal prison at that time.
It is divided into 3 rooms furnished with care and embellished with old antiques, among which it is possible to admire ancient work tools.
Looking up to the sky, you can admire the original brick vaults belonging to the old papal cells that recreate the evocative atmosphere of the Roman tavern of the past.
Traditional Roman cuisine reigns supreme, local ingredients are the masters of the entire menu which also offers seasonal surprises and winks to more modern and sophisticated dishes and desserts.
